Hitman 2: Silent Assassin pozwala na wcielenie się w zimnokrwistego zabójcę do wynajęcia. W każdej misji dostajemy cel do zabicia, od nas zależy czy zabijemy, tylko go, czy też wszystkie inne osoby, które staną nam na drodze.

Gra nie polega na strzelaniu do wszystkiego co się rusza, wręcz przeciwnie, trzeba pozostać całą rozgrywkę niezauważonym. Gra nie jest pod żadnym względem liniowa, gdyż zabić nasz cel można na wiele sposobów, począwszy od trucizny, broni palne, kuszy, aż po bombę w samochodzie.
